One of the most trusted is Consumer Reports, the renowned, nonprofit product review organization. Its annual ranking of brands was released recently.
Subaru stands on top of the list by a comfortable margin. It’s the only brand that CR rated as “much better than average.” And the Subaru Forester is on the Consumer Reports 2022 Top 10 Picks list – for the ninth consecutive year in the $25,000 – $35,000 category. Consumer Reports bases its choices on the results of more than 50 tests performed on 32 brands. Only new and redesigned vehicles are considered and the testing is done on CR’s own test track in Connecticut. The vehicles tested are bought anonymously from dealers and aren’t provided by dealerships or the manufacturer. The tests evaluate braking, handling, safety and fuel economy, as well as vehicles’ comfort and convenience.
The overall picture is filled out with owner satisfaction based on opinions gathered from CR’s members, crash tests results from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Vehicles with advanced safety
features received extra points, and Subaru’s myriad safety and driver assistance features are among the best. “Brands that rise to the top tend to have the most consistent performance across their model lineups” said Jake Fisher, senior director of automotive testing at Consumer Reports. “For mainstream brands like Subaru … to have such a strong showing is remarkable. For consumers,
