How Subaru’s Drive for Safe Vehicles Protects Teens and Everybody Else | Schomp Subaru

Published on Mar 11, 2024 by Schomp Subaru

Every parent of a teenager with a new driver’s license has experienced that moment of sheer terror when the kid drives off solo for the first time. No matter how well trained they may be, and how many hours you’ve spent riding with and instructing them, an awful lot depends on chance – and the safety of the car they’re driving.

So it matters to us at Schomp Subaru, and we imagine many of our customers, that Subaru has won some notable accolades recently:

U.S. News & World Report named the 2022 Subaru Ascent the Best New SUV for Teens in the $35,000-$40,000 category. “There is plenty of space if they have lots of gear they want to haul around, and enough seats to fit your whole family if you decide to take the wheel for a road trip.” It has a lot of standard safety technology and it’s a top safety choice for both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

U.S. News & World Report named the 2022 Subaru Forester the Best New SUV for Teens in the $30,000-$35,000 category. It, too, has lots of safety equipment and is top rated by the IIHS and NHTSA. It can be equipped with teen driver controls or smartphone apps “that send parents alerts when the car goes over a set speed or is driven outside a set time period or geographic area. These features allow parents to set limits for teen drivers and have an ongoing conversation with their teens about responsible driving habits.”

Subaru says love “is what makes a Subaru a Subaru.” We’d add that safety is about love, too.

Another Subaru safety victory was scored by the 2022 Outback, which scored the highest possible rating in the IIHS’s tougher side-impact test, the only midsize car the agency tested that earned its “Good” rating. The Outback won the IIHS 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.

Why is this important? Because side-impact crashes are common and as Americans favor heavier SUVs and pickups, more damage and injuries can result. This IIHS tougher test increased both the weight and the speed of the impact.

We want ALL of Schomp Subaru’s drivers to be safe – and these awards demonstrate that Subaru takes its safety commitment seriously for prospective teen drivers and for their passengers and parents, too.
